Question
hi

i am required to write an assignment discussing, the meaning
of kinship and marriage in different societies with
reference to:
1)gender roles
2)definitions of marriage
3)family structures

i have been advised to use three ethnographic examples,
which would you recommend?
which web sites should i use to acquire further information?
can you help me define and compare the relevant topics
(incl. referencing) within any three ethnographic societies?

highly appreciated
thank-you

Answer
Dear Shaakira,

Following are the lists you may find helpful:

Suggested sites:
http://www.soc.washington.edu/users/brines/chodorow.pdf
http://www.era.anthropology.ac.uk/Era_Resources/Era/Kinship/index.html
http://www.unu.edu/unupress/unupbooks/uu13se/uu13se03.htm
http://www.kchanson.com/ARTICLES/kinship.html

Suggested literature:

Also, Murdock's book is an superb one.

If you point out the issues and what you want to know, of course I'll try me best work it out together.

In the mean time I would suggest you to search for more literature which seem more relevant to you.

And of course, I can help you out with the referencing issues. In this case, you need to send me the soft or hard copies or at least the details of the references you are willing to use. Besides, you need to tell me which referencing format you want to use (APA 5th, Annotated, numbered etc.).

Sorry for my delayed response.

Best regards,
Gorkey
