Question
I recently acquired photos of my great grandmother taken in the 1890's. It appears she is of Asian descent however no one seems to know. She didn't have any female children or sisters that could be DNA tested. Is it possible to determine someones race through photos?
Thank you,
Brent Blevins

Answer
Hi Brent,

It is with in the realm of possiblity.  But another way is genetically looking at the midocondrial DNA.  This comes down from the mother's side.  Also, if you have a lock of her hair, you may get some DNA.  Also, if any of her children are still alive, you will have 1/2 of her DNA.
