Question QUESTION: purchased in 1977 I inherited this beautiful wall clock. Chimes are not working. Facing the clock inside there is a black lever to the left and one to the right. I think one controls the chime. Can you help ??
ANSWER: I assume this is a spring driven clock not weights. I assume that the
"Levers" are in the dial near the numbers 9 and 3.
the left one will start and stop the hour strike
the right one will start and stop the quarter chime
wind all three spring fully
beyond that I need a photo or it needs professional attention

QUESTION: Thank You. It does have 2 weights and 2 holes for winding. What position should the levers be at? Up or down ?
Answer the two weights are on chains or on cables with pulleys where the weights attach? If on cables - the most popular thing to happen is the cables get tangled on the winding drums - much like a backlash on a fishing reel. Peak up under the dial with a flash light and see what you can see.
try levers both up and then both down - one way or the other will work if the cables are not the problem or something else--let me know
