Subject: Open escapement palets

Question
I recently acquired an Ansonia "Elysian" crystal regulator. It seems to be mechanically sound, BUT I can't get it to tick! Its open escapement and it appears that the palets are not adjusted properly. I've fooled with clocks for years but am not sure of their proper adjustment.  It seems like I need about a hair more movement to allow the escape wheel to click over.  The gears are all free and when the verge is moved, the escape whell spins freely. There is no adjustment available to move the verge up or down.  Its a great clock and I would like to get it going. Thanks, Max

Answer
Although your situation sounds like one of insufficient escapement "locks", due to the complexities of adjusting the Brocot escapement, I would really insist you order and read a book that covers this subject in depth. There is simply too much information to try and include in this forum. I found subject matter that should allow you to bring your effort to a sucessful conclusion. You can order one here-
