Question
Hi,I have an ansonia clock which has 9 1/4 stamped onto the movement no other ref numbers,is it possible to get an exploded view or diagram of this clock?,regards,Rob

Answer
Hi Robert,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Exploded diagrams of antique movements are difficult to find, and Ansonia made many different movements. The best source that I know of for technical information and diagrams of antique American striking clocks is Steven Conover's "Striking Clock Repair Guide" (http://www.clockmakersnewsletter.com/strike.html). This book covers Ansonia, but I don't know which particular movement models.

Another very useful book is John Plewes' "Repairing and Restoring Pendulum Clocks". This book includes repair guides on many types of movements, but does not specify particular makes or models. It also includes a large appendix of general repair techniques.

American striking clocks use count wheel striking mechanisms which are generally similar, but each make and model differs in some technical ways. An overall understanding of these mechanisms should be sufficient for you to understand the operation of your particular movement.
