Question
I just purchase an 1982 Elgin Mantle Clock with Westminster chimes, Model 340-020 made in W.Germany. The chimes have been over wound, is there anything I can try to get it to start chiming again? If not what does a repair of this type Usually run?

Answer
Hello George,
The clock is not over wound. When ever you wind a clock wind it fully.
The clock is 26 years old. Unfortunately there is no quick fix I can pass on to you. Nothing short of a complete overhaul will solve your problem. What most repair shops do today is replace the movement. The 340-020 is the most common mantel clock  movement on the market and is still in production.
Repair costs vary depending on what area of the country you live.
