Antique Clocks - Polishing antique clock

Expert: Steve Skibicki - 8/24/2008

Question
I bought an antique mantel clock- it appears to be black stone and is quite heavy- is there anything I can use on the black stone to make the color really shine?  I am afraid I might have used the wrong product to clean it and the stone has lost it's luster.

Answer
Hello Alisa

The first thing to do is make sure the case is clean. This is preferably done when the movement is out of the case.
Clock restorers polish this type of case with a beeswax product.
Your local home store will have some of these products.
