Antique Clocks - Revere Westminster Chime R-935
Expert: Silverdollar Productions - 9/8/2008
Question I recently purchased a Revere clock model R-935. The tag reads Revere Clock Co Starkville Miss. The serial # dates it to 1963. The clock is in excellent working and cosmetic condition someone did cut the cord and spliced a different plug on it using electrical tape. Can you give me a ball park figure on its value. Thanks Sheila
Answer
Hi Sheila! The R-935 was one of the most popular styles of Revere clocks, ranking right up there with the famous R-913. I've been able to track production of this clock as early as 1941, and can confirm it was made under both the Revere and Herschede names, right up until the very end in the early 1980's.
Value of your clock is going to depend on the rotor used to drive it. The older clocks ran the larger, more dependable brass movements powered by the B-Rotor. But sales really declined for both Telechron and Revere starting around 1960, and money was becoming tight. Telechron redesigned the movement. Instead of brass, they use steel, and all the plates and gearing were now made much thinner than before. The famous B-rotor was dropped and replaced with the much smaller, but dependable H-rotor. The cases themselves became lighter as Revere was now using cheaper base woods, and thinner mahogany veneers. (But still, not a piece of plastic to be found!)
A B-Rotor 935 clock running, but lacking service will fetch $45 to $90.
A H-Rotor 935 clock running, but lacking service will fetch about half those numbers.
Thanks,
Roy and Al
