Antique Clocks - where to safely hang antique wood clock

Expert: Kenneth Saunders - 9/21/2008

Question
I have a very large two-weight Gustav Becker regulator clock.  I would like to hang it in a certain place, but the outlet for my floor furnace is underneath where it would hang. It would be several feet above that outlet.  Is it safe to hang it there?

Also, once I find a stud, do I need to do anything special to hang it safely, or can I just put in a very large nail?

Thank you.

Elizabeth

Answer
the mechanism will not care but the wood and the wood finish might not like the hot air drying it out - elsewhere would be better.

A large nail in a stud is fine or one of these below in a plaster or sheetrock wall anywhere there is no stud (get at any hardware store)
