Antique Clocks/Sessions chime tuning

Question
I have a model 811 B, Sessions clock with a simple chime. Works fine, but I don't care for the tone of the chime. Sounds flat to me. It's a metal spiral that is struck with a padded hammer. I'm wondering how to "tune" that spiral chime element. About the only think I can think to do is tighten or loosen the spiral chime element.

Answer
Hi Dan, these chimes are normally very clean and crisp. Try to tighten the rod using proper tools. First the chime rods must be vibration free and check if your rod is tight.Look at the chime spiral coil has been soldered, if it has this will cause the tone to be flat. Good luck David M
