Question
I have a Hamilton Mantel Clock with a West German movement. It's been stored for many years so it's essentially new.

It's been running for several days but chimes (fully wound) do not play. Chime switch is in ,"play" setting. One hammer remains in a raised position.

Is there a way to free up the chime mechanism ?

(I'm not familiar with the names of the various working parts).

Answer
try turning the minute hand around through the quaters while holding up ALL the hammers.

what are the markings on the back plate of the movement?

83 = year made 1983 by the Hermle Co of Germany for Hamilton who made the case
340-020 is the Hermle part # for the mechanism
