Greetings -

I have uploaded a picture, as suggested, to assist in answering this inquiry.

Thanks again for all of your assistance!

I recently acquired a set of Wernicke (pre Globe Wernicke merger) bookcases, and I'm stumped on a few of the numbers stamped on the label/slats.

In addition to the patent information, it has

C 9 1/2 and C 11, which I know to represent the sizes
198, which indicates it is oak
1349 & 3174 - these have me stumped . . .

you have the older ones like i have in my house.

the numbers you asked about are case numbers and pattern numbers.

I have gone through a couple of post 1900 GW catalogs looking for your numbers but now know they are earlier. and there is no indes co we have to search every page and I just dont have time for that.

I try to download GW catalogs when i can find them online, the older ones are elusive.

the catalog might say
"library case no. 1224"
"book sections pattern no. 809"
