Question
I have bought a house and in the attic i found an old sax. On this sax. it says(licensed pat pend 1910) Lyon(o)Wenly American professional chicago the #'s are 92058 on it. I would like to know some more about it and possibly how much if anything it is worth?  thankyou

Answer
The dealer is Lyon & Healy, and the model is American Professional.  And, the serial doesn't have much meaning beyond comparing with other American Professional saxes,as there are no serial number lists for L&H and it appears that they may have run different lists for different models.  The Patent date only means that the horn is no older than that, but it might be considerably newer.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
