Antique Musical Instruments/1924-1925 Holton Trumpet

Question
I just found my dad's Holton trumpet in my mom's garage. The serial number is either 81065 or 87065. It has a silver finish. I'd appreciate any info you have on this trumpet, especially model name and quality (student, general, pro).  I don't need an appraisal, since I have no interest in selling it. I played it in grade school and junior high school. Also, could you recommend a trumpet restorer in the Los Angeles area? Thanks!

Answer
In the mid 20's Holton only made professional instruments, and I don't believe he used model names for his trumpets.  Your horn dates to the mid 20s.  I have not had any first hand contact with anyone out in LA, so wouldn't be making recommendations. What is wrong with your horn, does it need a restorer or simply a repair shop?

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
