Antique Musical Instruments/Besson cornet shank & leadpipe

Question
I purchased an old (c. 1908) Besson cornet online not realising it has no shank or leadpipe. How can I replace them? It does need some significant repair for dents. etc. I do not have a great of confidence in my local repair shops for an instrument like this. Hope you can help.

Answer
Well, basically, the two options are to have one custom made or find one someplace like eBay. Are you just missing the 'bit' or is there more of the horn missing?

It might be helpful if you would want to send pictures (kenton@punxypa.com).  Vintage horn refurbishing is different than what the typical repair shop often does.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
