Question
I would like your expertise about my Martin. It has engravings that read "Martin Handcraft Elkhart Ind" and "Troubadour" Serial#103191 and numbers on each "1,2,3" as well as an "M" on the center key. If you could give me the date and value, i would appreciate any information. Thanks
Ken

Answer
As noted in the introduction, I don't do evaluations on this WEB site.

It dates to 1931.

The Troubadour was a narrow bore instrument with a long narrow design. The valves were botton spung and deco type design details popular in the 1930s.

The Martin Band Instrument Company was established in Chicago prior to 1891.  It was sold to the Wurlitzer Company and then purchased by Leblanc and moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 1971.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
