Question
I am a member of a local concert band in Australia and am wondering if you can help me learn some more about our sousaphone. Its a Buescher (we think) serial number 203606 and made in Oct 20 1907. How much is it worth and what's the best way to get them fixed??

Thanks

Answer
As stated in the introduction, I don't do evaluations on this site.  Nor can I tell you where to get one fixed in Australia.  But, I can tell you that the Oct 07 date is a patent date for their bell construction, though I believe if you look closely, it is Oct 29, 1907.  It was actually made in 1926.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
