Antique Musical Instruments/Father's antique trumpet

Question
My father played in many dance bands in the 30' & 40's with a Blessing Co. silver, engraved trumpet, serial # (or model #) 14327.  Would it be worth having it refurbished for resale?  Thank you for your time.

Answer
OK, let me separate your question into two parts. The horn is resell-able, but it is not worth refurbishing.  By that I mean that you probably won't appreciate the value of the horn by refurbishing it.  In other words, the cost of repairs will be more than the value of the horn will be increased.

Here is how that goes.  The people who might be interested in this horn are knowledgeable about vintage instruments and usually prefer to have horns refurbished by someone they know and trust and would rather obtain the horn for a lessor cost and then be in charge of refurbishing it.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
