Question
I have a Trumpet that my mother bought in 1950 - 1953, it said on the bell "custom built, atWurlitzer, Exclusively.  It has a serial number of 173121.  I am having it restored to playing condition.  Can you possibly tell me the company that may have made the Trumpet for Wurlitzer, and the year that it was made ?

Thanks,
Joe

Answer
Joe,

I'm assuming this horn is a lot older than the 1950's.  Wurlitzer imported horns for a while and eventually had horns made by Conn.  The Conn models that were made for Wurlitzer included:  14B, 15B, 42B, 43B, and 68B.

There are no Wurlitzer serial number lists.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
