Antique Musical Instruments/A Brass Cavalier Trumpet

Question
Sir.

I have been given a Brass Cavalier Trumpet.
The mouth piece goes to the third valve.
The serial number is 66473.

Do you know anything about this make and model.
We are curious to the date of manufacture.

Again Thank You for Your Attention.

Ray.

Answer
Sounds like you might really have a Cav. trumpet.  The Cav. long cornet was a common (and good playing) model, that is often mistaken for a trumpet.  But, it went from the mouthpipe to the 1st valve.

Cavalier was a sub-brand of a sub-brand.  I.e. it was made by Conn's Pan American division.  I'm never sure about the serial numbers on Cavaliers, but I believe yours dates to 1929.

The Cavalier was basically intended to be a student model, but they seem to be pretty good playing instrument in spite of being intended for the student market.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
