Antique Musical Instruments/Gretsch Commander Trombone

Question
Hello. I purchased this trombone from an antique store and was wondering if I could get some general information on it. On the horn towards the bell it has a very sparse flower/horn as well " Gretsch commander Chicago-Brooklyn-U.S.A"

Answer
Fred Gretsch Mfg. Co. was established in 1883 in Brooklyn.  In 1967, Baldwin Piano and Organ bought Gretsch Co.  In 1968 ad, the Fred Gretsch Company, Inc., 60 Broadway , Brooklyn NY 11231, advertized as distributors for Couesnon.

Gretsch appears to have been a dealer and probably marketed instruments they obtained from a variety of makers.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
