Antique Musical Instruments/Antique Wraparound Baritone

Question
My brother has a Buescher Baritone made in Elkhart, IN, seriel #22728. It looks like a miniture sousaphone so it is unlike any other baritone I've ever seen. Where would I find more information on its past history, instrument quality, tone quality, etc. as well as potential value?
Regards,
Dan Ryan

Answer
That would be an unusual horn.  It is sousaphone or helicon shaped?

It dates to 1913.

There were bands in the 1800s that used a range of helicon shaped instruments, from alto down, but this horn is newer than that.

Buescher made quality instruments, and being so unusual, it would certainly be a collectible.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
