Antique Musical Instruments/buescher grand trombone

Question
Kenton, I own a trombone marked the Buescher Grand. Other markings are True Tone, Elkhart, IN Pat. Oct. 29 07, 38, LP and two different series of numbers 191191 and 191277.  It is in great condition aside from tarnishing and in original case with all original pieces.  I believe all items intended to be in the case are.   Thus, my first question...are you able to tell me exactly what items should be included in case?  Also, the time period (year?) of this instrument.  Whether I should clean it or not before attempting to sell....at this point due to mortgage pressures I need to sell...hence the inquiry. Finally your input to the best venue for sale to achieve the most fair price. Thank you. Anna

Answer
The main parts on a typical trombone are the slide with inner and outer sections, the bell section, the tuning slide, and a mouthpiece.  There might also be ancillary pieces like a marching lyre, and a cleaning rod.  There are some variations, like in-slide tuning, etc; depending on what model you have.  It dates to 1925.  You can clean the exterior with it with a good quality silver polish.  And, assuming you have good pictures and an accurate description, you will get a fair price on eBay.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
