Antique Musical Instruments/Keefer trumpet

Question
I have a Keefer trumpet that I bought in 1955, used, in San Francisco.  I'm curious as to it's age.  I know that Keefer stopped making horns in 1942.  there is a 1 under the name on the second valve, and under that, serial number 30044. I've searched the web, with no luck.  Thanks

Answer
The end of production information is murky and the records pertaining to that time are non-existent.  There seem to be some instruments that are clearly Keefer made that have serials that are a bit over the serial number charts.  But, there are also instruments marked Keefer that apparently the company when it was out of manufacturing and was just a store stenciled.  Either option may be the explanation.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
