Question
Kenton,

I would like to know more information about my Olds Trombone, SN 20212 made by F.E Olds and Sons, Los Angeles CA USA according to the inscription around the bell on the brass horn with a silver slide and gold bell.  I received this from my parents sometime around 1945, but am not sure of the exact date.  Where could I go to get this antique reconditioned?  Thanks for your time.  Joe

Answer
It apparently was new when you got it.  My list would say that it was made in 1946.  I don't have any specific recommendations for who to get to recondition it.  But, I suppose a start would be for you to decide just how much you wanted done to it.  It all depends on whether you want to play it, display it or sell it.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
