Question
I have a old sousaphone which was played in our town Band in the 20's and 30's. It has the following information on the bell.....PERFECTION
          Toronto and London Eng
It appears to be smaller than a regular instrument.Any Information on it and age. Thank you

Answer
Perfection is one of those terms that were used by a number of companies.  Bruno used it, as did Couesnon, Millard, Grinnell, and Wurlitzer.

The major companies in Toronto were:  Williams, Beare, Nordheimer, Claxton, Mendell, Whaley-Royce.

Wes there any other printing or markings on this horn, that might narrow it down anymore?

If it appears smaller than normal, it it probably an Eb sousaphone rather than a BBb.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
