Question
I have a silver coronet made by CG Conn in Elkhart Ind and Worcester Mass serial number 14593, patent June 15,1886 One of my ancestors played it in a band, not sure of the exact person or era. How old, rare or valuable might it be?
Not looking to sell it, just curious to know more about it.
Thank You for your time.

Answer
Your horn was made in 1888.

In 1886, Conn, purchased the Fiske Plant in Worcester and labeled horns Elkhart and Worcester.   They phased out Worcester plant in 1898, although the label was continued until 1900.

Those old horns are collectible.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
