Question MY PREVIOUS QUESTION REFERED TO A BAND STYLE HORN (BARITONE). UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I AM WONDERING IF IT IS A EUPHONIUM. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES. THE BELL FACES STRAIGHT UP ON THIS ONE. IT APPEARS TO BE VERY OLD. PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU.
Answer There is no clear definition of what is a baritone and what is an euphonium. Additionally, US terminology is different than British terminology. The Brits call a horn a baritone that we call a tenor horn. My working definition is that the euphonium has more conical tubing in it than does an euphonium. And, one indicator is where the tuning slide is. If it is before the valves (mouthpiece side) then it is a baritone. If it is after the valves, it is an euphonium.
