QuestionI have this old trumpet horn, on horn & case says Buescher & Elkhart. I got this from my dads uncle, who passed in 1987 @ 89 yrs. It appears to be sterling silver, is in perfect shape no scratches or dents, in case with all attachments. Is it rare, I know you do not give value, could you point me in a that direction where I could find value. I was considering selling, but want someone who could appreciate it, I do not know how to play horns. Could you please tell me a bit about manufactuer? It is marked on horn with # 173443, and words "TRUE TONE" pat. 10/29/1907. Any information would help. Thanks for your time. Erik
AnswerBuescher started his own independent company in as the Buescher Manufacturing Co. in 1894. Buescher had previously worked for Conn-Dupont. He changed the name in 1904 to Buescher Band Instrument Co. He sold the company in 1916, though he remained as manager and engineer. Merged with the Elkhart Band Instrument Co. in 1928. He Died in 1937. The Buescher products were quality, well respected professional level instruments.
In 1963, Selmer purchases the Buescher Band Instrument Company just as it was being closed for good. The Buescher name and most of the product lines were perpetuated by Selmer.
The horn dates to 1924. The patent is for the way the bell was made, which was supposed to provide a better more controlled tone.
If you want to sell it, you will get the largest audience from eBay, but if you want to sell it to someone that you can have some assurance that will care for and appreciate it, then you may want to check with a local band director or local musician for recommendations.
