Question
I HAVE A BUESHCER TRUE TONE TRUMPET THAT HAD BELONGED TO MY UNCLE. IT IS SILVER WITH GOLD PLATING AROUND THE LOGO AND INSIDE THE FRONT OPENING. THE SERIAL # IS 181598. UNDERNEATH THAT IT HAS LP, THEN A "C" UNDER THAT AND A 13 UNDER THAT.  ON ANOTHER PLACE ON THE HORN IT HAS THE #977
PLEASE HELP ME OUT BY GIVING ME SOME HISTORY ON THE HORN AND THE RANKING OF THE QUALITY OF THE INSTRUMENT.  I ASKED A MUSIC TEACHER ABOUT THIS HORN AND HE SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ONE LIKE IT.
THANK YOU, IN ADVANCE, FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP.
MARYELLEN

Answer
The horn dates to about 1925,  Buescher was a well respected maker and the horn would have been intended for the professional market.  With the gold wash in the bell and around the engraving indicates that this was near the top of the line instrument.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
