Antique Musical Instruments/JW York trombone

Question
I just uncovered an old trombone in my dad's basement.  It appears to be silvare or silvare plate with brass fittings.  "Professional, J W York, Grand Rapids" is engraved on the bell and I found "Millars, 1120, M" on one of the fittings. It is in pretty good shape and I would like to give it to a nephew for a Christmas gift along with any information I can find about it.
Thank you I appreciate the help.

Answer
Wow, that would be a very early example, it dates to around 1887-99.

I would like to see some pictures of it.  Would you care to send pictures to me at Kenton@punxypa.com?  I'd like to see the profile of the horn as well as the engravings and markings on it.

I can give you more information on the instrument and the company, but I would like to see the horn first, if possible.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
