Question
I have a holton trumpet.the model number is t602r and the serial number is 036214.it has what looks to be real pearl or abalone on top of the three keys.can you tell me how old this trumpet is.thanks in advance.

Answer
The Frank Holton Company was acquired by G. Leblanc Corporation in 1964, so it really ceased being the Holton company.  However, Leblanc keep the same serial sequence until at least 1980.  But, they never used a leading 0 in their sequence.   So, this serial number has to be after 1980.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
