Antique Musical Instruments/Antique Trombone

Question
I have a Couesnon silver plated trombone. It is inscribed:
"Couesnon & Co. First gold medal Paris 1889 Excelsior Made Expressly for C. Claxton Toronto."

I was wondering if you would have any further info about this instrument.

Thank you in advance.

Answer
Darn, I thought I answered this question, I must have forgotten to hit the send button.

It probably dates to between to between 1889 and 1900.  If there is a circle/pineapple/grenade with a number in it in the engraving, that would be the year of production.  Claxton was a Toronto dealer who retired in 1911.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
