Antique Musical Instruments/Lorenzo Sansone 5 valve fr. horn

Question
I have recently acquired this French horn from a friend who bought it in the late 1950s.  Would appreciate a fingering chart and more info.  Is the thumb valve used for muting?  What does the pinky finger valve do?  Would appreciate any information you have on this horn.  It's in excellent condition!

Answer
I would hesitate to guess what you might have, I would suggest that you take it to some proficient horn player and have them check it out.

Sansone made a lot of varieties of horns.  And, it particularly noted for his Bb 5 valve horns.  You may have one of those.  But, he made a lot of other setups as well.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
