Antique Musical Instruments/Conn cornet

Question
I have a Conn cornet labeled Elkhart Ind and Worcester MA.  S/n 29917, Pat. June 15, 1886.  What can you tell me about this horn?  Were they made in various keys?  Where was this one probably made and about when?  thank you.

Answer
Your horn was made in 1895.  At that time Conn was making horn both at his plant in Elhart and also in the old Fiske plant in Worcester.

The patent is for the valves he used in his Wonder model.

The horns of that vintage were in high pitch or low pitch and some could play in both.

Additional there was an Eb cornet and some of the 'Bb' cornets could also play in C and A.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
