Question
I have this trumpet and would like some more info on it. This horn is silver and on the bell there is scroll work and inside the scroll work is an emblem above the emblem is the name (The Peerless)around the inner circle of the emblem is engraved Hand Made In New York, on a ribbon thru the circle it has M. I. Kalashen below the emblem it has a hand engraved serial # 6890. On the second valve it has stamped or engraved Pat.July 1910. I would also like to know how or where to get this horn appraised.

Answer
Mark Kalashen was a Dealer and possibly a Maker in New York from 1895 to 1930. His address in 1901 was 173 Bowery St, and between 1904 - 1925 14 Cooper St.

So, with the patent date, you can eliminate the early address, and also use that as the low end of date range.

I am not familiar with that patent.  Does it have a Patent number?

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
