Question
I have a Martin Freres Vendome Paris clarinet SN# E4945 and it appears to be in good condition with no visible cracks do you know when it was made or any information about it? Is it worth having restored?

I also have a Carl Fischer Albert Syatem Clarinet (it has no SN), it is not as good condition with a crack doing through the barrell (it is held together by the rings) and a small crack in the bell - no other cracks are visible. Again do you have any information on this clarinet? Is it worth restoring?

I also have a Manhattan metal clarinet SN# 32940 complete with all pieces and in good condition. It neads cleaning but is not beaten up like most I have seen. Do you have any information on it? Is it worth having restored?

Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Answer
Hello and thanks for writing! First of all I'd need photos of your clarinets to provide specific information. Please email any photos to me at info@foreverwoodwinds.com . I assume your Martin Freres is a wooden clarinet? Your Carl Fischer clarinet is evidently wooden as you mentioned the cracks. How many pieces is your Manhattan in total? Please email me some photos of the clarinets (even one of each would be sufficient) and I'll be able to help you further! Hope that helps! Thanks -Suzie

Experience

I have been fixing and reselling flutes (both young and old!) for the last 5 years and occasionally some other woodwinds on occasion. I've been well acquainted with antique oboes, clarinets, and most flutes (including piccolos and fifes) and should be able to help with most questions.

Education/Credentials
A few years ago, I attended a technical college for a band instrument repair course. After I left the college, I began educating myself on antique flutes, clarinets and oboes and continue to try helping people with their instruments. I'm able to provide an estimate of the value of the instrument(s) as well as an estimate for restoration of the instrument(s). If you have a very important question and/or I haven't written back to your question within a few days, please feel free to give me a call at any time on my cell phone: 570-236-7054. Thanks!
