Question
Concerning the question by Ryan on 1/6/09 about his
Maison Couturier Bugle 1812.  What was your answer to him?
I have an identical bugle and want to know more about it.

Answer
Jacques Couturier of Lyon was in business from 1812-1900. In partnership with Dubois as Dubois & Couturier. The company was bought by Pelisson in 1875, but continued to use the name.  It appears that Pelisson, Guinot, Clanchon et Cie, started around the turn of the Century, to the early 1930s, so if yours is similarly marked then it is likely the age range for your instrument is between 1900 and 1931.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
