Antique Musical Instruments/elkhart alto condition

Question

front
I own a silver-plated sax, and it's been sitting in an attic for 30 years. The case has aquired a....shall we say...horrible smell. Getting a new case is not an option, because it is an old style sax and the bottom keys are configured differently. Is my sax worth spending a lot of money on to just clean the case?

Answer
Conn saxes are respected instruments, so it is probably worth keeping in good working condition.

The case can be made to smell better, repair services have a spray that help clearing the smell; and setting it in the sun will also help.  I've also wondered whether Febreze or a similar product wouldn't also do the job.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
