Question
I was handed down this model number 7340 by my father that was handed down to him by his Uncle Ben. He was a firemen and played in he band in Newark, New Jersey. Now as I read a post before this one. the one that I own is etched only with The name of it "New Proportion" and the Company Frank Holton Co. with at the bottom it is etched Chicago and that is it. it is Sliver plated is this important.?

Answer
I'm not sure what earlier message you are referencing, but Holton used the New Proportion model in association with Couturier and other artists such as Clarke.  I think their name on the horn was more of an endorsement - an advertisement rather than as a specific model.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
