Antique Musical Instruments - Antique French Horn

Expert: Kenton Scott - 6/29/2009

Question
I have my fathers french horn and am trying to determine when it was manufactured.  It has stamped on the second valve 511 29.  It reads "The Elkhart Band Instrument Company, Elkhart, Indiana, USA" stamped on the bell.  It has three piston valves and do not know if it is a single or double bell french horn.  I will appreciate whatever information you may have.  Thanking you in advance.

Answer

The Elkhart Band Instrument Company was started in 1924 by Buescher President Andrew Beardsley. After Beardsley's death in 1928, Elkhart Band Instrument company was merged into Buescher. Elkhart used Bandmaster, Tempo and Windsor as tradenames. Buescher used Elkhart Band Inst as a trademark.
