Question I was recently given a family heirloom piano from my parents which I've been told is so old it cannot hold a tune (the pegs inside the piano protrude out of wood, not iron). I'd like my children to learn piano so I'm planning to purchase a newer piano and sell this beautiful piece of furniture. On the inside, under the cover on the right side it says "Ivars & Pond Piano Co. Boston, No. 4672." One piano tuner who looked at it guessed that it was from the 1880s. Can you confirm this and perhaps give me a price point at which to sell it... and also point me in the right direction as to where to sell it. I have a feeling that Craig's List isn't an appropriate place to list an antique like this. Or perhaps I'm wrong.
Thanks so much in advance.
Answer Dear Lyle,
Hi,
Thank you for using allexperts. In regards to your Ivers & Pond, it is a very well made piano. Would you be able to email me photos of your piano? My email is contact@lindebladpiano.com. Do you have the serial number? The serial number is typically stamped on the harp. This diagram may help you locate it - http://www.lindebladpiano.com/piano_Serial_Number.html. Once I have that information, I'll be better able to assess its condition and value. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
