QuestionQUESTION: I have a gold or brass? colored Coronet. On the bell you can barely make out J.Thibouvile London. There is also some kind of emblem above it which I can't make out. There is also 99 on it and we are assuming that means 1899? Is there somewhere that I could see a picture of this in its new state and also information about it. It was my great grandfathers and he lived in Vancouver area BC Canada. I think he played it in the Salvation army band? How would he have received it if it was made in London?
Thank you so much for any info you could supply,
ANSWER: That would be brass. It is curious that it says London, since the whole group of makers named Thibouville were from France, mostly Paris. Here are some Thibouville cornets:

It was mostly likely inported into Canada by one of the Canadian music houses.

QUESTION: Thankyou for that. I was wondering why it said London on it also as I was checking around on the Internet for info about it. One of the pics you sent me looks exactly like it. I was wondering though do you have any books that you could recommend that I could get from the library or somewhere that would have more info on it. I would like to know how it got stamped London and how it ended up in Mission BC
Thank you again so much for your time!
