Question Hello, I have a G. Trombone would like to know more about it.
It is highly engraved silver with copper inside slide. Engraved on horn is Acme Model, 'Solbron' (registered) Class A., trademark, BOOSEY , Boosey & Co. Maker, 295 Regent Str. London. 88765. Agents A.Eady & Co. Auckland.
I inherited it from a elderly cousin who apparently won NZ competitions around the 1925/27 era.
Would I need to insure it? Regards A Ferguson
Answer It dates to around 1914. G bass trombones are fun. They need an extension handle on the slide because the slide is longer that a man's arm can reach. It can play down to a low Db. It is a much smaller bore than any modern bass trombone, so it has a slightly different tone. They aren't really used regularly anywhere anymore, but they are still a horn that bass trombonists are likely to collect (guess that's why I have one!)
