Antique Musical Instruments/G. Trombone

Question
Hello,  I have a G. Trombone would like to know more about it.
It is highly engraved silver with copper inside slide. Engraved on horn is Acme Model, 'Solbron' (registered) Class A., trademark,  BOOSEY , Boosey & Co. Maker, 295 Regent Str. London.  88765.  Agents A.Eady & Co. Auckland.
I inherited it from a elderly cousin who apparently won NZ competitions around the 1925/27 era.
Would I need to insure it? Regards A Ferguson

Answer
It dates to around 1914.  G bass trombones are fun.  They need an extension handle on the slide because the slide is longer that a man's arm can reach.  It can play down to a low Db. It is a much smaller bore than any modern bass trombone, so it has a slightly different tone.  They aren't really used regularly anywhere anymore, but they are still a horn that bass trombonists are likely to collect (guess that's why I have one!)

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
