Antique Musical Instruments - "Imperiale" Piano #30729 - very small - possible value?

Expert: Todd Lindeblad - 7/3/2009

Question
Hello! My husband did a little work trade years ago for a small, very cute piano that is inscribed with "IMPERIALE" inside (is this a brand?)and with a possible serial (or model?) number 30729.(is very small. I don't have a measurement at the moment but maybe 3.5 feet high?). I have not been able to find any info on this brand at all or any examples of other pianos being sold of this same brand. Am very much hoping to find some sort of reference point as to what it might be worth and any info on the brand/model in general.
we would like to sell it as we have recently had some terrible financial misfortune... however, it may not sell for enough to help us anyway. We really love it so thought i would see what the value might be before deciding whether to sell for sure....
It is in very nice condition, plus my father who restores antique furniture recently refinished the surface (black lacquer). I don't know much about sound quality of instruments, but to my untrained ears at least it sounds very nice.
Don't know anything about its origins, but inside there is a velvet bag hanging on a ribbon with an old paper with a fair amount of japanese inscription on both sides. Does this have anything to do with the piano itself or is it just something personal from a previous owner?
Any info on this piano brand/model or a suggestion as to where i might find info, would be wonderful. A range of possible price points would be lovely as well for this model... just an idea of what this brand is normally worth.
If is worth anything would love to know how one goes about putting a piano up for sale? Am just outside of san francisco....
Thanks so much!!

Answer
Hi Anne,
Thank you for using allexperts. It sounds like your piano was made in Japan.  I'm unable to find any information about when your piano was built.    You can try selling it on the following websites:

http://www.pianomart.com
http://www.ebay.com
http://www.pianoworld.com/exchange.htm
http://www.craigslist.org

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
