Antique Musical Instruments - age of cornet

Expert: Kenton Scott - 7/10/2009

Question
I am wanting to research the age of a Lyons Monarch (Chicago, Ill) brass cornet with serial #40343, can you help?

Answer
In 1928, the Lyons Band Instrument Company was started by Wm. H. Lyons, Howard R. Lyons, and Clarence L. McCreery as a school instrumental rental program. Lyons started publishing the "The Lyons Band News and Kjos Music News" in 1936, with articles of interest to band directors.

Selmer purchased the assets and Lyons name in 1970.

Unfortunately, there is no serial number list available for Lyons.
