Antique Musical Instruments/cornet that belonged to my grandpa

Question
I have inherited an old cornet that belonged to my grandfather. It is a Cuesnon Serial number 55384. Do you know anything about this instrument?

Answer
Couesnon is a venerable old company that was started in 1827, and is still in business.  There is, however,  no existing serial number list that connects to date of manufacture...

But you might want to look through this display and see if anything is simlar, possibly you can get a sense of age by comparison.  http://www.horn-u-copia.net/show.php?selby=+where+instrument%3D%22Cornet%22+and+...

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
