Antique Musical Instruments/mellophone reference

Question
I'm looking for some sort of written overview of the mellophone (early 20th
century) so I can include a summary from a reputable print source in a
historical work I'm writing. I have read the details on the horn-u-copia site
and have gained lots of information myself, but still need to put a print
source in the bibliography. The Oxford Companion to Musical Instruments is
not useful at all. Do you know of a book, or journal article, that has a history
and a description of the mellophone? Many thanks.

Answer
There was an podcast on Mellocast.com that discusses the mellophone history.  But, I don't know that you are going to find an accurate printed history of the mellophone other than on the internet.  You might also want to check Al's Mellophone Page.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
