Question
good afternoon kenton.
i have found an old trumpet in my attic and i wondered if you could shed some light on its origins, manufactured year etc as i am considering selling it and would like to usethe cash to buy my son a guitar.
it is silver in colour,no visibe damage, and it does sound sweet.it states "a dallas star tested model" with the word "MONARCH" across the bell.it has the numbers 4137 across the middle of middle of the three pots..i can send some pictures if this helps.it has an aluminium mute and is in  leather case which is also in reasonably good condition except the closing latch has fallen off.
thanks in advance.
regards
phil

Answer
Monarch is one of those names that a number of entities used.  There is a Wurlitzer Monarch, a Lyons Monarch, a York Monarch, and at least one model that has no other description on it.

The only dealer in Dallas that I know of that stenciled horns was named Whittle.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
