Antique Musical Instruments - trombones

Expert: Kenton Scott - 7/7/2009

Question
QUESTION: Hay,I just wanted to know when my trombone was made. It is a getzen super delux tone balanced trombone. The serial number is 50150

ANSWER: Getzen records were destroyed in a fire, so all I can really say is that it was made before 1964

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Is it a good idea to use this trombone at school because it used to be my grandads.

Answer
Too many variables to really answer this question.

1) any horn in use runs the risk of being damaged in some way.  Fortunately most of the time the damage can be repaired.

2) Any horn that you wish to keep as a family heirloom will be at risk if used.

3) children run the gamut of being very irresponsible to being very careful, so you would need to consider the temperament of the user.
